Calling all Parents - Join the COLOR RUN fun! Help us out on the day of the event
The culmination of the fundraiser is our Color Run event taking place on Friday, September 18th in three heats.
A simple loop course will be set up on the grassy field at the back of the campus with 5 color stations where color powder will be gently sprayed with squeeze bottles on students as they run by, avoiding heads/faces as much as possible. Obstacles will be added to the Color Run course once the school reaches $35,000 in total donations.
The kids will be encouraged to run/jog/walk as many laps as they safely can during their race timeframe (~10 minutes). Water stations will also be set up to keep kids hydrated during the run.
All Poinsettia students are welcome to participate in the Color Run, but an opt-out room will be set up in the library for students who wish to sit out.
All Poinsettia students are welcome to participate in the run! We also welcome all parents/guardians/family members to come watch their students and cheer them on, but because we have limited staff, color powder, etc., spectators will not be able to participate in the run itself.
This year, our Color Run waves will be back-to-back. To streamline the transition between waves, we will no longer offer a photo opp area on the field. Instead, we kindly request that parents/families follow their child's class back to their classroom to take photos with their students there.
If volunteer staffing allows, we will have a table set up for spectators to purchase small cups of color powder for $1 each that they can use to toss on their own child(ren), avoiding their face. If you plan to purchase these cups, please bring cash and exact change as we will likely not have enough change for $10 bills or higher and will not be accepting Venmo or Zelle.
Every child that registers with PledgeStar will be given a white Poinsettia Color Run t-shirt (must register by 8/28 to guarantee shirt size) the morning of event day to put on in class or they can wear another white t-shirt to help make those colors shine. They will also receive free sunglasses courtesy of Sunny Smiles or they can bring their own. The sunglasses provided by Sunny Smiles may not fit all students, particularly 4th and 5th graders, so please keep in mind that you may need your student to bring their own sunglasses if the Sunny Smiles ones do not fit.
The kids will be running for approximately 10 minutes, so running shoes are best but they will likely get dirty and colorful.
The color powder is designed to shake off and wash out of most fabrics (and shoes!), BUT it has not been tested on every material out there, so have your child leave any expensive clothing and gear at home.
If you don't want your student riding home in their colorful gear, they are welcome to bring a change of clothes and a small towel to help with clean up after the race and a Ziploc to put their colorful clothes in.
Wacky gear is encouraged! Think fun hats, wigs, tutus, socks, etc. Kids are encouraged to express themselves and have fun dressing up if they want to, but be sure it's something comfortable and breathable. Please avoid anything too heavy, warm or restricting.
We have learned from prior Color Runs that the color powder doesn't stay on or 'dye' the t-shirts as expected. So, if you want to jazz up your student's Color Run t-shirt and make it a more colorful memento, we suggest tie-dying it after the run.
The color powder is purchased from Color Blaze and is a safe, non-toxic color powder made with high quality cornstarch, dyes and baking soda. All dyes are 100% FD&C and/or D&C approved. If students do not want to be sprayed with color powder, they can go around the color stations or participate in our opt-out room.
Even though the powder is non-toxic and made from baking soda and cornstarch, it's not flavored and doesn't taste good, so it's best to avoid getting it in your mouth, nose and eyes. Volunteers will avoid throwing/spraying color around kids' heads and faces, but stuff happens and some kids like getting their hair colorful, so sunglasses or goggles are a great option to help protect eyes. Bandanas or face masks are helpful for protecting the nose/mouth area if your child is sensitive to that.
