Last Day of School is THRUSDAY June 4th, don't forget to
Interested in becoming a Room Parent? Thank you for considering this important role! Room Parents help build strong connections between families, teachers, and the PTO while supporting a positive classroom community throughout the school year.
Room Parents are typically selected by the teacher around Back-to-School Night, and responsibilities may vary slightly by classroom and grade level.
Room Parents help share important classroom, school, and PTO information with families throughout the year. This may include reminders about events, volunteer opportunities, classroom celebrations, or teacher requests.
Each teacher’s needs are different. Some Room Parents help organize volunteers, prep classroom materials, coordinate supplies, or assist with classroom activities and special projects.
Room Parents may help organize classroom parties, holiday activities, or end-of-year celebrations by coordinating volunteers, supplies, snacks, and activities approved by the teacher.
Throughout the year, Room Parents may assist the PTO with larger school events and fundraisers by helping recruit volunteers, gather donations, or share event information with families.
Examples may include:
Staff Appreciation Week – coordinating a class gift or helping organize appreciation activities for teachers and staff.
Lions’ Night Out – helping organize a themed raffle basket donation from the class.
Book Fair & Special Events – helping recruit volunteers or support event coordination.
Email is usually the easiest and most effective way to communicate with families.
Using BCC in group emails helps keep inboxes manageable and protects family privacy.
Shared Google Sheets or sign-up tools can make organizing volunteers and donations much easier.
Staying in regular communication with your teacher helps ensure expectations are clear and support is helpful.
PTO meetings and the PTO website are great resources for upcoming events, calendars, and volunteer opportunities.
Depending on the classroom and teacher, Room Parents may also:
Welcome new families to the class community
Coordinate birthday recognition traditions approved by the teacher
Help organize classroom wish list donations
Remind families about spirit days or school events
Assist with field trip communication or volunteer coordination
Encourage inclusive participation so all families feel welcome
Room Parents are there to support the teacher — not replace classroom policies or decision-making.
Communication should always remain positive, inclusive, and school appropriate.
Every classroom and teacher is different, and flexibility is key!
We are incredibly grateful for the parents and guardians who help make our school community so special. Thank you for considering volunteering your time and energy to support Poinsettia students, teachers, and families!
